What price-range should I expect for wedding dress alterations?

Wedding dresses require a lot more work,time and care than a normal dress and subsequently will cost more. Please expect a price range of 300-1000 depending on the alterations required. Please note minor alterations could be less or some other extra complex alterations could cost even more. You can always email us with pictures to get a more accurate quote.

What are your alterations turnaround times?

Standard turnaround time for regular alterations is 1-7 business days, bridal alterations 5 weeks and standard pants shortening or other minor adjustments same day service (Monday-Friday) dependant on availability. We are always happy to offer an express service whenever possible upon request.

What is your dry cleaning turnaround time?

For general dry cleaning, we take 2 to 4 business days. Difficult stains, garments that require special care and furnishings may require more time and we will inform you of that at the time of order. We are always happy to offer an express service whenever possible upon request.

How much do your services cost?

Customers can find our extremely competitive prices on our Price List page of the website. If you are after a service that is not listed, please feel free to email us for a free no-obligation quote.

How are Opal Alteration’s prices compared to other local dry cleaners/alterations?

Are your tailors experienced in bridal alterations?

Yes, our tailors specialise in wedding dress alterations. We have experience working on many different styles and fabrics with happy customers from all over Canberra and out of state.

Are your tailors experienced in Suit alterations?

Yes, we have tailors specialising in suit alterations and provide suit alteration services to some of the top Australian fashion brands.

Do we need to book appointments to come to the store?

No, we do not require appointments for in-store visits except for bridal alterations to ensure our bridal experts are present at the studio when you come in.

What do we need to bring to appointments/fittings?

We recommend you bring the shoes that go with any outfit which needs to be shortened.

Do you offer alteration services to fashion stores and corporations?

Yes, we offer account-based alterations/dry cleaning services to some of the top Australian brands and companies.

Do you offer any discount for bulk orders?

There is an existing 20% discount for dry cleaning orders of 3 garments or more (exclusins apply). For bulk alteration orders please contact our team to discuss options and possibilities.

Do you have a loyalty reward program?

Yes, you can earn points every time you place an order with us. Your receipt will show the total amount of reward points earned which you will be able to redeem at any time towards your next order.

Do you offer alterations services to rural areas?

We are more than happy to work with our customers from rural areas in organising postage of already pinned garments (by client) and posting items back after alterations.

Where is your studio located?

We are located on the second floor of Belconnen Westfield in Canberra, at the main Fresh Food entrance. It is near Aldi and next to Amcal+ Pharmacy. The best parking to reach us is the yellow carpark.

Who does the actual cleaning?

Opal does the dry cleaning on-site. Our dry-cleaning workshop is next to our tailoring studio in Westfield and all our chemicals are eco-friendly and non-toxic.

Mobile Service FAQs

What is the mobile service?

Our mobile service is a pick-up and delivery service for both alterations and dry cleaning. We can pick up and deliver your items to your chosen location whether that is your house, office/work or hotel.

What is a window appointment?

A window appointment is a flexible appointment made within the 2-hour time-slot you choose. For example, if you choose our morning window at 8:00 am your delivery could happen at any time between 8:00 am and 10:00 am. It is the more cost-effective option.

Why should you use our mobile service?

Our mobile service is especially designed for the convenience of our busy/working clients who usually don’t have time during business hours and also senior citizens or clients with special needs. It is also very convenient for bridal alterations saving you the hassle of bringing your bridal gown to the shopping center and the bridal party who can have their alterations done all at the same time at home.

How do we make appointments for pick-ups?

You can book online by clicking on the “Book a Pick Up Now” button on our menu or homepage.

What should I do if I can't be home for my appointment?

You can request our staff to leave or pick-up your items from a designated area around your house at the time of booking. For drop-offs please make sure you have made the payment online before the appointment, if we haven’t received payment, delivery cannot be made and a re-delivery fee will apply.

What areas do you cover?

Currently, we only cover the Canberra and Queanbeyan regions for our mobile services.

How much do your mobile services cost?

Our mobile service prices are the same as in-store prices, however there are delivery fees for different types of appointments which you can view at the time of booking. Orders can be a combination of alterations and dry cleaning. Customers can find our extremely competitive prices on our Price List page of the website.

What if we can't find a price for a particular service?

We are always happy to provide special request quotes via email or our contact form. Please mention the service you are after and when possible attach photos of the garment for a more accurate quote.

Are there any extra costs for pick up and drop off?

There is a $80.00 pick-up + Delivery fee for standard appointments. Window appointments are $25 for dry cleaning pick-up + Delivery fee, $40 for orders under $75. Pick-up and Delivery fee is $40 for alterations/comibation orders and $60 for orders under $200.

All orders can be a combination of alterations and dry cleaning.

How long do your services take?

Our turnaround time-frame for standard alterations is 3-7 days, bridal alterations 5 weeks and for general dry cleaning 2-4 business days. (Difficult stains, garments that require special care and furnishings may require more time and we will inform you of that at the time of order).
We are always happy to offer express service when available and upon request.

What times are your mobile services available?

We are available most weekdays and Saturdays. You can view our available times when booking your appointment. Some after hours appointments are also available.

How and when do we pay?

Invoices can be paid online before delivery or at the drop off time via Eftpos/Card or Cash.

Do you offer same day services?

Yes, as long as the pick-ups are in the morning and only for standard dry-cleaning and alterations. There would be a minimum $15 or 30% surcharge (whichever greater) for express services in-store, and for mobile express dry cleaning a minimum $40 or 100% surcharge (whichever greater) plus $120 express fee. Please check availability.
Garments with difficult stains, needing special cleaning/care and major alterations may not be possible.

Can we organise regular pick-ups?

Yes, you can book a regular appointment on our website and then speak to the staff member at your initial appointment for rescheduling a recurring weekly/fortnightly or monthly pick-up appointment.

If you are not going to be home for delivery and would like us to leave your garment at your designated area please make sure payment is made before delivery, otherwise delivery can not be made and a re-delivery fee of $25.00 will apply.
  • Re-Delivery - $25.00 surcharge will apply if you miss your delivery. We can always pick-up and drop off your items at a designated spot if you will not be home for the delivery and agree to it at time of booking.
